Idiot's Guide to Sport Flying

About Chapter 602

Adirondack Chapter 602 is an organization whose membership is focused on aviation and a broad range of aviation activities including education. Areas of interest include designing, building, restoring, maintaining, flying or simply enjoying airplanes, and the people who fly them. 602 is committed to making aviation more accessible to all who wish to participate, while maintaining high standards of safety and quality. Being a member of Chapter 602 means airplanes, fly-ins and much more. It also promotes a sense of fellowship and camaraderie that are important elements of all EAA activities.

Every year Chapter 602 sponsors a Young Eagles Day which introduces kids age 8 to 17 to the joys of flying by providing airplane rides free of charge. The Chapter awards an annual scholarship to an area senior high school student who is entering an aviation related career. They provide help and guidance to area people who are interested in learning to fly or build an airplane. Through the EAA Technical Counselor program builders can get a pre FAA inspection to help insure a satisfactory FAA airworthiness inspection. They also get involved in the community with such things as the NYS Dept. of Transportation Adopt a Highway program where they clean a portion of State Hwy 30 each year.

Chapter 602 meets on the last Monday of the month at Edinburg Airport at 7:30 PM. during the summer months. The meeting location is announced on the website and in the newsletter during the winter months. The meetings are open to the public and any interested parties are welcome to attend. Membership is on a yearly basis and is open to anyone wishing to join. If you would like to learn more, come to any meeting or contact any officer through the above link.
